My attempt at fiction

She pressed herself closer to him, holding on to that last embrace. He felt his shirt getting slightly wet and realized she was crying. He then felt her hands reach into her pocket and felt the cold pistol against his stomach. He slowly pulled back and stared into those beautiful, tearful eyes in fear.

"What are you doing?" He whispered.

"I can't take it anymore. It hurts too much. I need you to end it. There's nothing left for me anymore." She said, sniffing between each sentence.

"Nothing? What was I ever to you that now there's nothing left? You know we're over, you know it can never work with us. So why do you push it so? Move on Mel, it's done."

Just hearing him call her Mel, that endearing nickname that only he was able to melt her heart by saying so.

"Don't you see? Without you I can never be 'Mel'. I'm just plain old Melissa. Don't you see I'm just nothing without you?"

"What 'plain old Melissa'...I fell in love with that girl remember?"

She calmed down a bit with the mention of love, looking at him with hope, she asked: "And now...?"

He looked into her eyes once more, wiping away her tears with the tip of his fingers. He waited until her whimpering stopped for just a moment and her sobbing lessened. After another moment, he cautiously whispered: "What.....what do you want me....to say?"

This only angered her more and she took a step back while tightening her grip on the guy that had become loose within her fingers. She pointed it at her heart and pulled his hands to place it on the gun ready to shoot, all happening within seconds, not giving a chance for him to react.

"Kill me, now and end this pain. I can't be with you? Fine, then end my life now that so that I do not go on pretending that I could ever even be just 'okay' without you. Shoot me!"

"No!"

"Shoot me!"

"NO! NO, I will never--"

She pushed on his finger and the gun fired the bullet straight into her chest. She made a groan and fell.

"MEL! No no no no no no...."

Blood started trickling down. Blood was everywhere. That brilliant color was all around. He just kept on repeating "no" while holding her tightly and tears streaming down his face. He held her face in his hands and shook her. "MEL! MEL! Don't DIE!"

She was taking her last breaths. She half-opened her eyes and looked at his eyes and tried to take his hands in hers by dropping the gun on the floor.

"Tell me you love me..." She coughed, breathing her very last. "Tell...tell me...you...tellll me...you l-l-l-l-l-l-o-v-e me. T-t-" and her eyes closed for the last time and her body went still.

"MEL! NO, no no no no no no no no..."

After whispering 'no' for a while longer, he put his head in her chest, holding her still, sobbing, his tears wetting her now blood soaked top.

Softly, but still audibly, he whispered to her chest, or perhaps to himself, realizing the truth of it:

"I did."
